Medical students at the University of Central Florida will soon be able to learn practice management and electronic health record programs as part of their curriculum. NCG Medical donated their software to UCF, which is worth $1.25 million.

NCG Medical has partnered with Data-Tech to host their backend SaaS solution in Data-Tech’s private, secure, redundant data center. The solution uses 2x application server to distribute the software in a SaaS model to the end user. During a demonstration of the NCG Medical SaaS website, Kirk Chung, Director of IT at NCG Medical, noted that the Data-Tech solution  “simplifies the installation” by delivering the application straight to the user’s desktop. The technology that UCF students will be learning through the NCG Medical software assists future doctors on many levels. EMR/EHR and practice management are critical elements in running a medical practice in today’s technology-driven world. The electronic health records program will take all patient records and information and store it online.

Electronic records have been in the news a lot recently, especially since President Obama took office. The Obama administration has been pushing for medical records to be stored electronically, and even offers incentives to practices who are making the switch.

Practices that use electronic health records get to take advantage of their many productivity and management features. Some of the proposed benefits of electronic health records are a decrease in cost, a reduction in errors, more information and clinical data for healthcare providers, efficient record keeping and ease of mobility.

Traditionally, most medical records are stored in paper files. If a building containing the records is destroyed by fire or some other natural disaster, the records are lost. Storing records electronically and backing them up in a secure data center is a great way to keep patient data available.

Having records stored electronically also makes transferring medical records easy. On a personal note, growing up in a military family, I remember what a hassle it was every time we moved and had to go and collect hard copies of our family’s medical records. A standardization of electronic records would have eliminated that problem, as our new doctor would be able to access all of our records from previous doctors.

Data-Tech is excited to be a part of NCG Medical’s huge contribution to UCF. We have been working with NCG for two years and are planning to assist in the delivery of EMR/EHR software to practices throughout the country.

Ah, finally! A 2x vs citrix comparison. We’ve been converting citrix users to 2x for quite some time. As a matter of fact, 2x powers our number 1 solution. But now there’s finally a great comparison…actually, there is no comparison. 2x did a case study on their application server 7 to compare it against XenApp5. The cost savings are unbelievable. Our implementation team can help you make the switch, call us, we can help! 800-473-1537.

A Case study showing how application delivery using 2X ApplicationServer 7 lowers total cost of ownership compared to Citrix XenApp 5

2X ApplicationServer is a globally-recognized software solution, with thousands of installations, for remote published application delivery in a reliable, low-cost manner. To demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of 2X ApplicationServer versus competing solutions, the costs of the 2X solution were compared to a competing Citrix XenApp 5 solution for a given configuration. The server user density values, operating costs and maintenance fees shown are estimates to demonstrate potential TCO savings and resulting ROI increases possible by investing in a 2X ApplicationServer-based solution; the actual costs of solution implementation may vary, depending upon what application and hardware configurations are chosen.

Sample Case

A shipping company has a remote application delivery network of 1500 users, all of whom need personal access to server applications at all times, requiring 1500 concurrent connections. The company is purchasing a solution specifically for reliable remote application delivery, without unnecessary additional features.

Competing remote application solutions for the configuration above are presented below, assuming a user density of 50 users/server:

50 Users/Server Solution Costs*

2X Citrix
User Density (users/server) 50 User Density (users/server) 50
Server Operational Costs (electrical, floor) per server/year $1,200 Server Operational Costs (electrical, floor) per server/year $1,200
Users 1500 Users 1500
Servers 30 Servers 30
Product Purchase ASENT30 (ASENT with 28 ASAGENT) Product Purchase 1500 XenApp 5 Advanced Concurrent User Connection Licenses
Product Cost $47,155 Product Cost $367,500 ($245/license)
Maintenance Purchase ASENT30UPIN Maintenance Purchase 1500 XenApp 5 Advanced License Renewals
Annual Maintenance Cost $14,150 Annual Maintenance Cost $52,500 ($35/license)

Three-Year Solution Costs*

2X Citrix
Product Cost $47,155 Product Cost $367,500
3-Year Operational Costs $108,000 3-Year Operational Costs $108,000
3-Year Maintenance Costs $42,000 3-Year Maintenance Costs $157,500
Total Cost $197,155 Total Cost $633,000

With a server load of 50 users per server, the 2X ApplicationServer 7 solution has a three-year TCO of $197,155, versus a cost of $633,000 for a Citrix XenApp 5 solution, providing 2X customers with a 68% saving over Citrix users.

The resulting savings from a 2X solution increase further if a user density of 100 users/server is assumed:

100 Users/Server Solution Costs*

2X Citrix
User Density (users/server) 100 User Density (users/server) 100
Server Operational Costs (electrical, floor) per server/year $1,200 Server Operational Costs (electrical, floor) per server/year $1,200
Users 1500 Users 1500
Servers 15 Servers 15
Product Purchase ASENTPRN15 (ASENTPRN with 13 ASAGENT) Product Purchase 1500 XenApp 5 Advanced Concurrent User Connection Licenses
Product Cost $23,225 Product Cost $367,500 ($245/license)
Maintenance Purchase ASENT15UPIN Maintenance Purchase 1500 XenApp 5 Advanced License Renewals
Annual Maintenance Cost $6,970 Annual Maintenance Cost $52,500 ($35/license)

Three-Year Solution Costs*

2X Citrix
Product Cost $23,225 Product Cost $367,500
3-Year Operational Costs $54,000 3-Year Operational Costs $54,000
3-Year Maintenance Costs $20,910 3-Year Maintenance Costs $157,500
Total Cost $98,135 Total Cost $579,000

With an increased user density of 100 users/server, the 2X three-year TCO drops to $98,135, while the Citrix solution costs only fall to $579,000, showing a new 2X solution savings rate of over 83% compared to a comparable Citrix solution. As 2X license costs are determined by the number of physical servers to which the product is installed, rather than simply the total number of solution users, the greater the user density available through a given configuration, the greater the potential savings from using a 2X solution.

As shown in the scenarios above, the purchase of a 2X ApplicationServer 7 solution not only provides effective, reliable remote application publishing capabilities, but does so at a far lower cost than its competitors.
